Inilunsad kahapon ng Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) at Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) ang Digital National ID para hikayatin ang mga Pilipino na i-optimize ang mga benepisyo nito.
Ito ang digital na bersyon ng National ID, na naglalayong gawing simple ang mga transaksyon sa gobyerno at pananalapi.

Ayon kay PSA Undersectary, Claire Dennis Mapa. “While you dont have the physical card, you have the digital ID, you can download and use it, di na kailangan ang physical card para makapag transaksyon kasi the digital card is sufficient.”
Sa ngayon, tumatanggap na ng digital national ID ang ilang ahensya ng gobyerno gaya ng DTI, Philhealth, at GSIS.
Kinikilala din ng apat na bangko at e-wallet na GCash ang mga digital national ID sa mga transaksyon.
