Nanindigan ang Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) na ang Escoda Shoal ay nasa loob ng Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) ng Pilipinas, batay sa International Law at may karapatan silang mag-operate sa lugar sa kabila ng pag-angkin dito ng China.
Ginawa ni PCG Spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea, Commodore Jay Tarriela, ang pahayag makaraang sabihin ng Chinese Foreign Ministry na naghain ito ng pormal na protesta dahil sa presensya ng BRP Teresa Magbanua sa Escoda Shoal.
