NILINAW ng Department of Finance (DOF) na hindi bagong buwis ang 20% Tax sa Interest sa Savings ng mga depositors.
Ayon sa DOF, 1998 pa lamang ay binubuwisan na 20 percent ang Interest na kinikita ng deposito sa bangko alinsunod sa Tax Reform Act of 1997.

Ang bago lang sa ilalim ng CMEPA o Capital Markets Efficiency Promotion Act ay tinatanggal na ng Preferential Rates sa mga deposito ng mga mayayaman o yung mga deposito na may mas matagal na Maturity.
Ipinaliwanag ng DOF hindi kasi patas ang lumang batas dahil kung sino pa ang mayayaman sila pa ang nabibigyan ng Special Treatment dahil sa Preferential Rates o mas mababang buwis o ‘di kaya ay wala na talagang buwis.
